Alex Samuel Gilford’s description of thon’s 3 art pieces: All three of them address Global Warming. Urban Sprawl uses anthropomorphism to show how animals like brown bears, deer, and mountain goats are losing their natural habitats and are moving into urban areas. Global Suffocation is a representative image that shows a human with a planet as a head. The figure is strangling itself with a plastic bag. The oil tower and smoke stack show the sources of pollution. Attack of the Pine Bark Beetles is an illustration using repetition to show how climate change is allowing pine bark beetles to reproduce at an alarming rate. They feed on the bark of pine trees so the central image is a dead Christmas tree; this symbolizes the effect that global warming has on people’s traditions and holidays.
